Rothrock Challenge is the Hyner's southern cousin. Voted by La Sportiva's Mountain Cup Series as one of the ten best trail races in the country. Also a Trophy Series Race sponsored by Trailrunner Magazine. It's a 30K filled with awesome single track, elevation changes that will numb the legs, and hair-raising scrambles through boulders and cliffs. The PA Trail Dogs' apple didn't fall too far from the tree on this one. If you liked the Hyner, then you'll feel right at home in Rothrock. 2013's race will be Saturday June 1st. Click for Map. See checkpoint map. LaSortiva article.

Prowl the Sproul 10K --  July 20th, 2013 10AM Start--A smaller event put on by the PA Trail Dogs that may just be the most challenging 10K around. It's three grueling miles up, followed by three and a half miles of blistering downhill. It's the baby sister of the Hyner Challenge. Registration opens on April 20th at the Hyner Challenge for the July 20th event.

Greenwood Furnace Trail Challenge, May 5th 2013--The second annual GFTC in Rothrock State Forest is an intense, rugged, single track half- marathon. A figure 8 route of rocky climbs and nasty downhills; it starts at Greenwood Furnace State Park, climbs to the fire tower, drops down in to Alan Seeger Natural Area before climbing back to the tower, and then returns down to the park. All proceeds from the race will go towards two charities, one local and one international.

The Eagle Trek-- May 19th. 12 noon start. Experience the trails of the Zindel Park area.  See some of the beauty our county has to offer.  Enjoy a shorter 6 mile hike/run or challenge yourself with the more demanding 12-mile hike/run. From the first time hiker to a seasoned veteran, The Eagle Trek is meant for everyone.  Experience some new trails off Pine Mountain Access area, some Megastransect trails, and enjoy the scenic view of the county’s Keller Reservoir area. The same trails used last year’s hike will be used again.  This year all monies will go directly to Hershey Hope Lodge and Kent Fest.

The Frozen Snot--So what is The Frozen Snot? It is a 12-mile trek, trail run, hike, adventure race or what ever you want to call it. We have selected the worst that Bald Eagle Mountain provides and scheduled it during what is usually the coldest week of the year. It is aimed at the hardcore trail runner and hardy hiker. By hardcore we don't mean "elite" or necessarily fast, but rather a person that is ready for the most daunting 12-mile course we could devise in these parts. The day could be freezing rain on top of a foot of snow or it might just be a bracing, bright winter's day out on a hard and fast rocky surface.

Most of the route is on established trails used by the Megatransect and Eagle Trek. Some of the route, though, travels ground that is really only passable (except to the diehard bushwacker) in the winter. The course will be well-marked, but not "manicured". Expect three stream crossings which may, or may not, be frozen. Check out the Course page for more details.

Dam Scramble -- August 25th 2012 8:30am Start --Dam Scramble is an Endurance Trail Challenge at the Curwensville Lake Recreation Area.  Participants will have the opportunity to complete one 9-mile loop or continue on for 18 miles by doing two loops.  The majority of the course will be on single-track trails through the woods with many beautiful views of Curwensville Lake.  There will be many hills to get the heart pumping.  We want you to have a challenging but rewarding “scramble” around the lake! This challenge is open to both hikers and runners, however, this will not be your average “walk in the woods” so please only attempt this if you are sufficiently trained.

Mile Run (Tiadaghton) Trail Challenge--  (13miles) 3rd year trail race put on by fellow trailrunner and trail enthusiast, Jeff Miville. A Trophy Series race sponsored by Trailrunner Magazine. Race will be March 31st, 2012. The course will offer some dynamic elevation changes throughout Bald Eagle and Tiadaghton State Forest lands. It will be a great way to warm up for the Hyner Challenge!!!

The Dam Half/Full Trail Marathon -- Join the Mid Penn Trailblazers with their eighth annual race. Its a Trophy Series race sponsored by Trailrunner Magazine and the third Grand Slam race. A runner/hiker can choose between doing the half marathon or continuing on for another challenging 13!! Jason, Joel and crew have worked hard to offer one of the few trail marathons in Pennsylvania. The course is unique and the food and comraderie afterwards is exceptional. Date for 2011 is Sept.18th . Registration is limited to the first 450 runners and opens March 19th at noon!!! Click here for 2009 Video.
