Welcome to the 8th annual Hyner View Trail Challenge. For those of you who have taken on the Challenge in the past....Welcome Back!!! For those "newbies" out there....get ready for the ride of your life. The course is set up to challenge each individual both mentally and physically. There are three major climbs and three major descents over a course filled with vistas, stream crossings, and single track paths. The HVTC is part of Trailrunner Magazine's Trophy Series and is the 2nd race in the Central Pa Trophy Series. 10 out of the 12 Trophy Series winners chewed up the same dirt at Hyner in 2013. We would love to see another great showing in 2014!!
The HVTC has a cap of 1200 total runners or a deadline date of March 25th....whichever occurs first. Registration is starting to fill up so please don't wait too long. The 50K, offered to experienced runners only, starts at 7am. Runners are expected to traverse the course in 9 hours or less. The 25K, open to runners and hikers alike, starts at 9am and there will be new cut-off times in place to ensure a daylight finish. Parking is across the street at the airfield as usual. There will no parking at the WCSA clubhouse near the start/finish. Please arrive early on race day to pick up race bag and bib as registration will end at 8:30am in order to get everyone across the street to the start line.
The Trail Running Community lost a great friend on Oct 21, 2013. Jen Stec was an incredible young lady who touched so many lives. She was a staple at all the central Pa trail events. Jen completed all 11 Megatransects, 7 Hyner Challenges, and 5 Rothrock Challenges among the thousands of other races she attended. Her input after the first Hyner Challenge was instrumental in re-routing the course to include Cleveland Hollow and the SOB. She also represented the Exterra Trail Series as a sponsored athlete. Jen always had a smile on her face and loved everything the mountains could throw at her. She will be truly missed by all. We hope she'll be with us in spirit this April as we all challenge ourselves to not only be better athletes, but better human beings.. Rest in Peace, Jen.
